The Top Ten Things You Dont Want to Hear About Losing Weight
The Pain of Instant Gratification
What a great world we live in. You want something, you get it! You need something, you buy it! You don’t have money, you charge it!
You don’t deny yourself anything??do you? Why should you? If it feels good -do it!
Right?
WRONG!
As we have found out over the years, feeling good and being good for you are two different things.
So, let’s take this one step further. As our Diet Divas members already know, “A minute on the lips-a lifetime on the hips!”
That is so true. It tastes good for one split second. But it ruins your whole mental outlook. So that one second of instant gratification just cost you more than you bargained for.
It really cost you a few extra pounds, it cost you a feeling of dismay, it will probably cost you the whole day of “cheating” on your diet.Is it worth it?
If your Doctor told you that eating that bag of chips would cause you to keel over in pain right away??.would you still eat the chips? Of course not! Well, I am telling you that eating that whole bag of chips will cause your mind to keel over! Eating that bag of chips or cookies or pint of ice cream right now will set off the following signals to your brain:
1. I am a failure
2. I knew I couldn’t stick to anything
3. I will never lose weight
4. This just doesn’t work
5. I will remain fat forever!
All of the above signals just hit your brain. Was that instant gratification really worth it?If you can step back for a minute and just think about it you won’t eat the foods that are hurting you. Count to ten before you open that bag. Drink a glass of water and take a walk before you eat that candy bar. Send the correct signals to your brain. I WANT TO SUCCEED!
This will be a great year for you.
That’s right, determination is the word, we get tempted on seeing mouth watering food, and if we are unable to control ourselves and indulge in the eating binge, we regret later because we pay for it by increasing unnecessary weight and calories. But on the other hand if we are able to control our temptation and avoid indulging in eating we feel lot – lot better later and get a feeling of achievement as if we have really achieves something big, and that’s really true. So the crux of the matter is we should be determined enough to look and feel better by following the right eating habits.
you know what I find interesting is that once I switched to healthy eating, just the thought of some of the fastfood restaurants out there makes me sick. Health food is good, it tastes so much better than all the empty calories out there. I mean look at Taco Bell, would you rather eat that or fresh. Give me fresh mexican food anyday, it tastes way better!
I never thought about the psychology behind instant gratification. I agree with the article, that there are these false believes that you follow for the sake of producing an outcome however you compromise well over what you are capable of. The bag of chips, was a very good example.
You are so right about instant gratification and our culture. It is so hard to say no to anything when everything around us says, “if it feels good do it.” We have to make a decision as to whether we want to feel good now or to be good for life.
Japanese people are so hardworking and they work alot of time very very less time for eating out. So i think health food are good option as they are low or non in calories.
This is overall a good info to be shared with friends.
Its like having too things the necessary one and the one that you badly wanted to have. These are two different things but they both give you benefits. I agree that one has to well power to control their emotion to ask more.
Lifting weights and pumping iron is the best thing out there for losing weight. I have tried all the diets in the world and this is the only way to shed the pounds in my humble opinion. As long as I eat in moderation, I don’t have to sweat it over my food intake anymore. I work out 3 days per week 1 hour per day and have lost 50 pounds in 4 months and actually successfully keeping it off.
Here is how I went about it: http://bit.ly/91T5IU
I have a wedding coming up and I want to loose weight fast. I’m been trying for a long time to loose some extra pounds but I can’t stick to a weight loss plan, until I got the proper determination and will power, which is to look good and feel great on my wedding day which is about 5 months from now. And when you do have the will power, you stick to it no matter what.
Instant Gratification will get you every time. I never thought about in terms of eating or dieting before, however, you are correct. Negative self talk will always prevent you from achieving your goals. Blessings, Ron
I am very guilty of everything that you said. Aside from that, I am also an emotional eater. After reading your blog, I somehow realize that you really have a point. I mean, what’s with the having myself stuffed first and then feel regret seconds later just because I’ve eaten more than I supposed to, and the bad thing about it is, I have to clamor all day because my pants won’t fit anymore. Can you suggest anything, I mean give more concrete examples (maybe a little story to share with)? Thanks!
I think people only carry on eating junk food because subconsciously, they think they’re making a sacrifice and they’re forced to give up their prop (which is their junk food). If only they knew that there is nothing to sacrifice and only fabulous gains to be made by eating the right food.
I hope many people read this article and see the light.
Keep up the great work!

With our culture today this is becoming a problem. Instant gratification. That somehow transitions over to things that are not a fast process. Dedication, the right foods, and a little planning will get you to lose the pounds. But having the right plan is key too. If you don’t know how to lose the weight or what foods are going to help you then you need help. For me strength training and eating less helped me lose 50 pounds some years back. The program that helped me figure out what foods help you lose the pounds is a 2 year old program. I have listed some details about it at http://www.tamethebulge.com and the nice thing about this program is that Results Are Typical.
Great article by the way. The determination to lose weight should be strong, it takes real will power to resist urges to eat. The best way would be getting rid of those chips, cookies, and all the foods that are not on the program. It will also help if you eat appetite suppressant foods that are rich in fiber. Fruits contain pectin that is also helpful. Have you heard about African Mango Plus? I heard it’s a great appetite suppressant.
